Third Time’s the Charm!

Happy Third Birthday Porgi!

We all have been enjoying summer so much that we forgot to post! Porgi has been enjoy long walks and exploring the new surroundings. He has really made our new apartment home. He has definitely found some favorite spots around the place. Hopefully we get back on a more regular schedule now that fall is right around the corner.

Where has the time gone! Porgi has already turned 3?! It seems just yesterday we got the message that we would be welcoming him into our lives. We had a small celebration with his grandpawrents where he got some new toys, lots of love and playtime, as well as some special treats.

Speaking of which, have we said that we love boba? Please note that it is not a great idea to feed any dog tapioca/boba. From what we saw, it is not toxic to them but it could cause different health issues, especially if they eat too much. Instead, we made a drink out of banana, peanut butter, almond milk and ice which we blended. And in place of the boba was blueberries. He absolutely loved it! When he couldn’t reach it any more, we decided to freeze them and save them for later.

Upgraded View

If you have seen previous posts, you know Porgi loves to look out onto the street. At our previous apartment, he was only able to look out to the street since we were one the first floor. Now, Porgi is able to see so much more! He loves sitting out while we are hanging out on the porch. He is so engaged that he didn’t even want any treats the first few times we were outside.

Speaking of new treats, we started a new subscription service to go along with Bark Box. To provide some variety in what he chews, get started to get Real Dog Box. They send dog treats and chews that are 100% meat. We knew Porgi loves his hooves (which was something that our breeder gave us as a natural chew) and all their treats have been similar. While we were surprised with the first box, Porgi has loved everything that he has gotten! If you are looking into it, we would suggest to look at the reviews and types of treats they have as it might now be for everyone.

New Thing, Sleeping Next To Toys

During the summer, we found Porgi doing this more and more. We can’t help but take all the photos of him sleeping next to his toys. To think that it has been three years since we first knew Porgi was going to be part of our family. We want to take the time to thank you all for also being part of our journey. Having Porgi as part of our family has brought us so much joy. And we hope that he brings you some too.

Hello Spring!

Trick for Treat?

It’s been two more weeks and we feel like we are getting into a rhythm and routine. Porgi has been getting more used to us being home all the time. Being indoors more means more training for Porgi. While we haven’t exactly been trying to get him to learn a new trick, we are taking this time to get him more familiar with the pawramp we got him a little while back. While skeptical of its structural integrity at first, Porgi has been going up and down by himself more this week. Sometimes he still wants a little nudge…and we mean that in the literal sense. We literally nudge him to go up and down. Yet this week he has been going up and down without that nudge! We hope that eventually, he comes up to the couch to cuddle all by himself.

IMG_7951

Nice Weather, Long Walks

The weather has been increasingly tempting us to go outside. Yet with shelter-in-place still in effect, we save those times for when we walk Porgi. We still go on our morning walks but now we have been taking longer ones in the afternoon. And lucky for him, that means longer walks! In the past few weeks, he has been getting 15-30 more minutes outside. Overall, he is loving the increased outdoor time.

The part that he doesn’t like is not getting to play with other dogs. One of the first things that we hope to do once we are able is to take him to a dog park, where he can run off-leash and play with other four-legged friends. Until then, the long walks and increased fetch/tug-of-war will be our best bet to keep Porgi happy and entertained.

IMG_7994

Bath Time?

We haven’t given Porgi a bath since he was just a puppy. We have taken him to dog groomers since he jumped out of the bathtub. Since the pet groomers are closed in our area due to COVID-19, we decided it was time for us to try again!

Using Earthbath dog shampoo, we did things differently this time. Instead of dousing him with water, we went slower. Having a bowl of water nearby, we placed our hands in and pet him while feeding him new treats. This time, Porgi was more calm about getting a bit wet. Maybe it was the fact that he wasn’t immediately drenched in water or that he has had this happen at the groomers multiple times, but he sat still until we were ready to put the shampoo on.

After a quick run-through with shampoo, we let it sit then dried him off. No barks or trying to run away from our little dog. Once the door was open, he bolted out and shook himself off. He may not enjoy a bath but at least he is clean and smell much better!

Dreaming of the Dog Park

Through this time, we truly hope that you all are staying safe and healthy. So much has changed and we expect it to be different once we are all out of this. Once we are, we hope that Porgi can once again play among his friends and continue to bring smiles to people and other dogs alike.

First Blanket Fort!

We hope everyone is healthy and safe. Here at our home, we are doing our best to follow the best practices set by the health department, which means figuring out fun things to do at home. One of those things was to throw it back to our childhood by making a blanket fort and watching a movie.

When we started moving the furniture, Porgi was incredibly skeptical. You could see it on his face since he wasn’t smiling and looking trying to figure out what was happening. We were moving chairs and tables around our apartment and he decided to wait it out in the safety of the bedroom. Once he heard the moving generally stop, he came back outside to investigate.

To Porgi’s delight, he saw the blankets and our sleeping bags on the floor! He immediately jumped in and made himself comfortable. Throughout the first half of our movie, Porgi lay at our feet enjoying the cuddle time…

IMG_7649

Cuddle Time!

…speaking of cuddle time, that has increased the longer we stay indoors. As Porgi continues to get used to us being more at home, he is allowing himself to sleep (rather than try to figure out why we are home all the time). He is finally adjusting well and with that, he is more and more comfortable just hanging out on his bed or on the couch with us. While he has always been a big cuddler, he has become even more so as he senses our need to relax.

The thing that he hasn’t been really done since he was a puppy is to fall asleep on the couch. He much prefers his own spots with a bed/bedding on it to the couch. While some things do change, we are really glad that he still wants to cuddle up next to us!

IMG_7777

Trying New Chew Treats

Keeping Porgi occupied while we work has been more of a challenge than we initially anticipated. We usually play music for him to help him sleep since it keeps out some of the outside noise that he usually reacts to. But since we are in meetings and calls, we can’t do that as much. So something we are trying is providing different treats.

SmartBones from Chewy.com is the one that we decided to try out. While we still use hooves as the main thing he chews one (besides his toys), we wanted something else to provide some variety for him. While one bone lasted about an hour (at most), it is a nice change since the bones are made out of real chicken and vegetables with less of the worry. While we watched him eat, we noticed less sharp edges and since it was a bit new, Porgi had to think more on how he wanted to chew it. Excerise of the mind is just as important as expending Porgi’s physical energy.

IMG_7830

What’s That I Hear?

We think that Porgi feels the need to protect us while we are home, which leads him to bark more often. We try to get some airflow in our apartment by opening the windows slightly. But this does cause him to hear more of what is happening outside. So, as you see above, sometimes we look over and just see Porgi with his eyes towards a window wondering what that sound could be.

He is generally friendly, but he can have a bit of a mean streak at times. We consistently work on the settle command, but he loves to let us know when there is another dog passing by or something new is happening.

One positive thing though is that Porgi has helped us keep to a routine. Each day around the same time we take him outside to walk and potty, then feed him. Since he is on a schedule, it has helped us also keep to one and still have some semblance of our previous routine.

Still, we can’t wait until we can take Porgi back to the park and run around with other dogs…but until then we will be sending everyone positive vibes to you and your loved ones.

Into the Unknown, Hello 2020!!!

IMG_5932

Into the Unknown

Wow, it has been a while since we have posted but welcome to 2020 everyone! So much has happened since our last post so we are going to try to highlight some of the big things that happened!

Visiting some of our friends for their birthday, Porgi got to stay in a hotel for the first time! At first he was just getting his bearings. He was sniffing everything, trying to figure out what the A/C unit was and seeing if he could fit underneath the bed. We had to stop him from trying to dig at the carpet, but once he figured that out then everything went well!

Later that weekend we were also able to take him back to the beach and around the downtown area for some shopping. After meeting so many people and begin out all day, he barely even noticed that we weren’t going home to sleep. It is safe to say that Porgi’s first hotel stay was a success!

IMG_7291 2

It’s Christmas Time Again…

Over the holidays, we were able to spend half of it with one set of Porgi’s grandpawrents and the other half with the other set. He loves being there as Porgi gets longer walks, extra love and attention and not to mention all of the treats!

As you might be able to tell, Porgi is still not a big fan of wearing anything that is not a bandanna but we try anyway for the pictures. This year, Porgi was fortunate enough to get so many toys and treats for Christmas that he still hasn’t been able to go through them all.

IMG_6174

Quality Time with Lola

It seems that Porgi and Lola are figuring out more and more how to be around each other. They usually are the only dogs in the house so when they are together, it takes a little bit to get used to again. Sometimes they may fight for a bit (usually over some food, or if they think there is food), but will be back playing again in no time.

The most interesting thing is that Lola is so willing to share her bed with Porgi! After a long walk and play session, they take turns sleeping on her bed. And with that, there has been less fighting between the two of them. We guess they are like any other set of siblings, usually playing and sometimes getting on each others nerves but caring for one another nonetheless.

IMG_6405

Why Can’t Our Place Be Like This?

We spent almost every weekend in January 2020 away from home, which is why we haven’t posted all year. But this month looks to be a lot of home time, which means Porgi gets to play with his friends at the park where there are Corgi meetups! We are excited for what this new decade brings and hope everyone is having a wonderful start to the year!

New Things November

IMG_1153

Love of Blankets

Something that has always been true about Porgi is his love of his blankets. The blanket pictured above is still his favorite as it was the same one we got when we picked him up. Lately, he has been taking his blankets between his own spots around the house. There are times where we are watching TV and look over to see Porgi pick up his blanket and move it into our bedroom. There was even a time during the past three weeks where he tried to pick up two blankets at once! He stood looking at both for about 30 seconds trying to decide how he was going to accomplish this task. It was really cute!

IMG_1221

Disney + Equals New Toys

We are still getting to all the toys from his birthday! With Disney + coming out earlier this month, we decided it was time to give him some of the Avenger toys that he got. He has a special place for longer toys…maybe because he is long too? Which meant that he absolutely loved this one! As soon as we took the tags off and threw it to him, he ran after it, took the hammer’s handle by the mouth and proceeded to take it to his bed in our room. The rope toy handle is great as Porgi has a lot to get into. Most toys last about a week but even after two, Porgi is still working on this one.

IMG_5629

Into the Forests

One thing new this month that has been happening is that Porgi is exploring more of the greenery during our walks. Instead of wanting to stay on the regular grass, Porgi has been wanting to go where the brush and ferns cover his face! Ever since he was a puppy, he was always curious about everything. This new fascination with pretending to be Indiana Jones shouldn’t have been a surprise to us. Admittedly, it does make it more difficult to pick up after him when he chooses to use the potty there…

IMG_5726

Sleepy Time

This month, more than ever, Porgi has been sleeping on his Casper bed. When we first got this for him, he still wanted to sleep on the floor. But recently, he has been loving his bed. He loves his bed so much that if the door to the bedroom is open and it is past our usual bedtime (Disney + can be to blame for us staying up later than normal), Porgi will put himself to bed!

This week we are visiting Lola! Their next adventures to come in the next post!

Porgi the Panda Bear

This year Porgi had two costumes! And of course, we planned our costumes around him. One was as a panda (thanks to one of his grandpawrents for sending this!). It fit him so well and we are learning that Porgi prefers things to be wrapped around him (like a bandana) instead of things going over his head (like a sweater). Since he was having so much fun, he didn’t even try to take it off.

With his other costume, we went to Petsmart and found a pumpkin costume that also had lights! For our matching costumes, we were the last 3 months of the year with Porgi being October and us being November and December. We went to a party where he got all the attention for being a cute little pumpkin. It also made it easy to spot him as you just had to follow the low to the ground lights.

IMG_1113

Enjoying All The Attention

On Halloween day our street had a trick or treat event and the businesses were all giving something away. There was even a set of Frozen characters for people to take pictures! Of course, we took the opportunity to have Porgi take a picture with them.

On one of our streets, there is a pedestrian underpass that was turned into a Frozen themed tunnel! There was music from the movie, streamers that looked like icicles and even a bubble machine. Porgi had a blast looking at the floating bubbles and trying to figure out what they were.

We have some ideas for upcoming costumes and can’t wait for the next time we can match with Porgi!

IMG_5497

Everything The Light Touches…

In a park next to us there is a playground. Usually, we let Porgi off-leash here because it is completely fenced off. The last two times that we have gone, Porgi has summoned up the courage to get up the stairs and onto the Playground! We were hoping that he might try to go down the slide, but with one look down Porgi decided to turn around.

We are still working on his fetch outdoors. He is getting distracted with all the sights and sounds but we feel confident that with some intentional practice, we can get it down. Something that we are on the lookout for is a dog advent calendar! Last year we were fortunate to get one from Trader Joe’s and want to do something similar again! Well until next time…

1 Year with Porgi the Corgi

IMG_5357

Still Has That Same Look In His Eyes

It has been a whole year to this day that we welcomed Porgi into our lives and started our little family! This year has been filled with many high moments and lowlights. Still, through it all, we wouldn’t trade in all those moments for the world. Over the past two weeks, these photos of Porgi have been coming up on our Timehop giving us a reminder of the anticipation we felt the weeks before we met Porgi.

Looking back on the videos and photos now, it should have been more clear to us just how much his personality was already developing. To this day he still a fearless and confident dog yet so loving and caring at the same time. We remember the first day that we brought him home we threw a party and invited all of our friends. Porgi absolutely loved the attention and still does to this day.

While some things don’t change, others do and now our little puppy has grown up into a wonderful dog. We all have learned so much from teaching him tricks to learning how to potty train it has been quite an adventure. We can’t wait to see where the next year takes us!

IMG_5295

Walks with Lola

Last weekend Porgi got to see both Lola and Otter! Porgi loves going on walks with Lola since they are mostly off-leash and they can run to their heart’s content. Up the trails and through different fields, they run and chase each other. We know Lola has really taken to Porgi as in a moment of pure candidness, we saw Lola rest her head on Porgi and them just being there for a good 30 seconds. It was such a beautiful moment.

Porgi also got to see Otter! We were able to take them both on a beach walk and then around a shopping area nearby. We weren’t quite ready to have Porgi off-leash at the dog beach and lucky for us we brought his long leash. That meant he got to still have a bit more freedom than usual in this new environment. While we did take him to the ocean, we think he is still unsure if he likes the water or not. He will go in and let the waves come about two to three times then want to go back onto the sand.

IMG_5321

Beachtime Contemplation

It has been such a year with our little family here. We know we could not have had such a wonderful experience with our friends and family supporting us and making sure Porgi is always having fun and in good health. As he continues to grow and get older, we are sure there will be even more things we experience and enjoy. And for now, we have a big day planned for him including time at the dog park and a family outing to a lazy dog restaurant.

Hanging Out With Otter

Porgi has gotten a lot of friend time these past two weeks. Last weekend, we went to Porgi’s grandpawrents house where he got to go on long, unleashed walks in the parks and trails where Lola the Golden Lab goes every day. Those walks are two to three times as long as his usual walks, so he always goes straight into a nap after he eats. Lucky for Porgi, he also got to play with his best friend Otter! We all found a dog park where the two boys could run around and enjoy the sunny weather. Afterward, we went to get brunch nearby and both Porgi and Otter were awesome while we ate. It was only after the second time our waitress came around did she even notice Porgi! Finally, all of that training we have been doing and started during the holidays last year is paying off! We know we heard that it can take months and sometimes years to train your dog, and we are definitely seeing that with our little guy. Slowly but surely (with a lot of persistence), Porgi is getting better at being at restaurants and in other public places!

IMG_0492

All the New Toys

Porgi was showered with love in the form of toys, toys and more toys for his birthday! We have been giving them to him slowly. Most of the time, he actually enjoys playing with a toy even after he tears into it and pulls all the stuffing out. His newest favorite toy is this Marvel Deadpool Rope Toy. It has all his favorite things such as stuffing in his head, a rope body, and crinkle paper. If you are interested, there are a lot of awesome marvel dog toys out there that look great and have different textures to keep dogs engaged and happy. We can’t wait to give him some of the other ones, like Thor’s Hammer or Hulk’s hands! Porgi hasn’t met a toy he doesn’t like!

IMG_0500

The Center of Attention

Porgi got to go to a housewarming party where he had full roaming access both inside and outside. You can probably tell by the smile on his face that he absolutely loved it. And by being the only dog there, he got all the attention. He would go up to people and sit at there feet knowing that they will shower him with all the scratches and pets. We wish that we also had a yard or outdoor area for him to roam around every day. But that might be something we look into at a later date. For now, Porgi has his daily walks where we can go off-leash in some areas, walks with his grandpawrents and his weekly Corgi meetups.

Porgi Turns 9 Months Old

Porgi Turned 9 Months Old!

Our happy not-so-little puppy turned 9 months old! To celebrate, we gave him one of his bark boxes! He doesn’t go through them as fast as we have been getting them, so we have been saving them for special occasions. He has grown into a pretty tough chewer and loves trying to figure out how to get the squeaker out of a toy. Fortunately for us, even after he does that Porgi still enjoys playing with that toy. Our puppy has yet to meet a toy he doesn’t like. He does favor some of them more than others or will choose to play with some this week and not the next.

IMG_4068

Can I Get the Front?

New development: Porgi has been loving car rides. One of his new favorites has been looking outside to see what is happening with everyone. If he can, he loves to prop himself up so he can look through the window. If you are sitting in the backseat with him, he will 100% sit on your lap to get a better view of the world. Since we take him on long car rides, we got him an attachment that connects to his collar and the seat belt. That way, he can have the whole back seat to himself.

Continuing to Explore New Places

Over the past Saturday, we both had to go into work. Lucky for Porgi, that meant he got to go with one of us to explore new places! These past two weeks, we have been continually increasing his time off-leash and outdoors. With all of the new exploring, our puppy has been as tired as ever. True to 90% of these posts, Porgi is currently sleeping while wrapped in a blanket on the couch.

Get In We’re Going Shopping

IMG_3281

Spring is here!

Luckily on our usual walking route, the florals are in full bloom. Porgi has been loving looking at the different leaves and flowers fall gracefully from trees. At first, he wanted to eat everything so, at every stop, he would take that opportunity to see how everything tasted. He realized that he wasn’t a fan of their taste, which is fortunate for us or else we would never get anywhere on our walks. We are continuing to expand our walking routes to keep things interesting for our growing puppy.

IMG_3835

Enjoying Puppy Cake!

Porgi got to attend another dog’s first birthday party and was lucky enough to get a slice of dog-friendly cake! We were there for three hours and it was non-stop play between the two of them. At first, the two puppies were paying around in the front yard on the grass area.  While Porgi is usually the one that has the most energy, he finally met his match! Emi, the other puppy, was not only giving him a run for his money (literally out running him) but also jumping over his low-to-the-ground frame. Porgi was the one being chased and enticed to play by Emi’s playful biting and encouragement. Once they started slowing down, we went back inside. Yet the shift in scenery ignited a second wind in the two excited friends. They began to run around and chasing one another. Porgi would then use furniture or other people to help him gain an advantage in their play biting. After the two played non-stop for another hour, it was time for cake! Emi’s parents baked a dog-friendly cake, which Porgi and the other dogs thoroughly enjoyed.

First Trip to the Mall

Porgi’s grandpawrents visited us this weekend and we all went to the mall. The second we stepped inside, Porgi put on his charming happy face hoping that everyone would stop and say hi. It worked like a charm. His signature look includes a tongue out accompanied with eyes of pure joy and excitement. It is difficult not to say hello! Knowing Porgi is still working on going up and down stairs (currently he stops at two), we tried getting him up the escalator. Not a fan…not at all. Oh well, it is something that we will continue to work on with him. At the mall, we were able to stop at a small coffee shop/bakery. It was there that we realized how tired our puppy was. Even with all the different people and dogs that passed by, Porgi was in his down-stay. Next thing we knew, he was doing his slow blinks then finally fell asleep right in the middle of all the action. Yet after a small power nap, Porgi was ready to explore once more. Though once we got back home….

On his Favorite Blanket

…Porgi fell straight to sleep. This Disney-themed blanket is his favorite one to sleep on when we are in the living room. After an exciting mall trip, he immediately closed his eyes for a welcome sleep. This weekend was filled with many exciting experiences. From meeting a new friend to practicing self-restraint at restaurants and finally going shopping Porgi is probably looking for a relaxing week where he can just fall asleep in the comfort of Mikey and Minnie.
